Kudos to the BOC on passage of the Graffitti fight allowing the use of state prisoners to clean up eye-sores if visible from a public road without consent of property owner.

There is a request for doantion of paint to assist in the effort.  I think it a good move and will contact Refuse Control Department (the proponent agency) to see what they need in the way of donations.

I am sure propoerty owners will have financial responsibility in the painting as well but donations of paint are understandable.

Thanks Board!!!

I wonder if the County might consider the way of the State (more specifically the DOT and its HERO units). They have "ads" on their units and signs posted on the interstates indicating that an insurance company is sponsoring them. I wonder if a paint brand might be willing to step up as a sponsor. Makes sense to me anyway.

We contacted Warden Smith to offer a paint donation. He said they were not accepting public donations now because they had no easy way or place to arrange pick up and deliveries and that Home Depot and other local businesses were already donating paint that the jail will pick up, but if they ran short they ask residents next.  Maybe the refuse dept. will accept with no problems though.

Just peachy,

Thanks for the update.  It will continue to be important for this action to stay on the forefront to maintain it's effectiveness.  I applaud any business that can donate paint and they should be lauded publically for their community involvement and we consumers should support them with additional persoanl purchases.

Should private donations be warrented in the future, I have no problem donating myself.

Thanks again.

As residents we have got to remember to stop complaining for just a second and acknowledge our elected officials when they do something right.  I suppose the full board voted for this and I applaud them all.

Just look at all the positive things that have occurred in C.C. over the past year or so.  The panhandlers have been stopped.  C-Tran is going.  Less Graffiti.  Our schools are on better footing than they were, except the budget.  They’ve started of a county movie department.  There must be more but I've drawn a blank.

Thanks BOC !

Things are certainly starting to like brighter.  I agree with Commissioner Singleton's comment:
“The Lake Harbin Plaza, it has been a real hard spot to deal with,” Singleton said. “I had one lady who has actually brought spray cans and try to spray over it. All of a sudden, it became more and more ... more than she could handle. This area at the Lake Harbin Plaza is within walking distance of four schools ... so it was a real eyesore.

That whole shopping center needs to be renovated or torn down.  Most of it is empty.  Does anyone know the procedure the county must go through to deal with abandoned buildings?

Check back in a few months to see if the areas mentioned were cleaned and if they remain so.  :-X
